School twinning |
 
In this scholastic year, Fondazione Volontariato Giovani e Solidarietà-Onlus continue the "School Twinning " project.
This program which is in an experimental stage, would allow the twinning among an Italian class and a class from a developing country.
Our proposal is that in this way there is a knowledge of diverse cultures, the motivation to meet and to share. We believe that when the children are offered opportunities to form relationships with those different from themselves, they are able to mature in their grasp of empathy and openness to others. This type of exchange furthermore encourages self-reflection, about one's own behaviours, habits, and traditions, to discover and understand them better, to identify them entirely in a definite context (family, school, friends) and a culture of membership, the Italian culture. These points are remembered and reinforced, but this does not mean they finish there, but they are used as a point of departure to enter into other realities, to bring oneself and welcome someone new, in an intercultural experience of reciprocal enrichment.
The "School Twinning " project seeks to make this exchange an authentic and continuing experience, excersized across stages of time and through materials which are created by the students from the two classes. For the classes that demonstrate an interest in beginning this type of experience with us, it is possible through this project to twin with classes in Asia (Cambodia, Myanmar, India), in Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, and in Africa (Zambia).
The program that we propose (which also remains flexible and open to suggestions, and the necessary logistics of the teachers) includes these steps:
a) Exchange of photos of the twinned classes and a intial presentation of themselves;
b) Exchange of a story/fable from the respective countries or a description of the daily life (the home, family, friends, school);
c) The final award of a DIPLOMA of SOLIDARITY that attests to the work developed from the children during the year and leaves them a memory of how much they have learned and of the intercultural road that they have undertaken.
The cost to undertake school twinning is 30 euro a month (it is calculated at about one euro per student) which will be used to aid the twinned class in the developing country (only 5% will be utilized by Fondazione Volontariato Giovani e Solidarietà-Onlus to cover the administrative costs of the project).
