
The Congress that will take place in Sassone
(Rome), and will be a summary of the four seminars on Common Goods organized by Vides International.
The previous meeting were held in San Jose (Costa Rica), from July 26th to July 30th, 2007, attended by representatives from North and Central American countries; Sampran (Thailand), from the 12th to the 28th of August, 2007, attended by representatives from Asia, and in Belo Horizonte (Brasil), from the 18th to the 21st of November, 2007 for South American countries. These encounters contributed to the establishment of 130 local branches that are working hard in their respective countries for the promotion of the concept of Common Good. The fourth seminar took place in Foligno (Perugia) which was attended by young people from all over Europe.
Given the positive turnout we received at our conventions held during the 60th year anniversary of the establishment of Universal Human Rights, it seemed an opportune time to organize another convention with the intention letting more young people to be witnesses to and promoters of Common Good also thanks to the support from the groups who participated in previous seminars, and will be invited to speak about the what concrete actions they are undertaking to work towards the Common Good.
Each of the five speakers will contribute something important: Maria Grazia Caputo, ex General Director of Vides and responsible for the Office of Human Rights in Geneva for the FMA institute and VIDES International, for which she will share the strategies for future VIDES groups; Maria Francisca Ize-Charrin, director of the department of “Research and Right to Development” in the office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. She will focus on the theme of human rights and what represent at the same time, a privilege, and a responsibility for everybody; the Cameroonian Hélène Yinda is considered one of Africa’s most important theologists. She will discuss the relationship between culture and spirituality; Ricardo Petrella, the president of the international committee global water His lecture fill focus on the connection between the Environment, Common Good, and Human Rights; Flavio Lotti, national coordinator for the Table of Piece will she light on the theme of intercultural piece.
Those who participate will work together on the concept of “common good” keeping in mind the two models that these “goods” can be applied to: those tied to the environment (involving planet earth) and those concentrated on humanity (a sense of altruism), focusing on Common Goods and Human Rights as a birthright and how focus and responsibility to protect it, conserve it, develop it, and leave it to future generations.
The fundamental objective is to encourage a sense of multiculturalism to the fullest forging in those who attend a awareness of the Common Good.
Objectives of the Conference:
- Favor the sharing credit for the things in ones own territory from local VIDES members operating in the area.
- To celebrate the “60th anniversary of the declaration of human rights”.
- Promote multiculturalism between the participants
- Encourage a dialogue and interaction between the participants coming from the four continents
- Point out the best actions each country has taken towards the promotion of human rights.
- Analyze the relationship between the theme of Common Good and Human Rights.
- Create a “Statement by VIDES on Common Goods” that represents am individual commitment on the part of the young people attending, a commitment on the part of the groups, and an invitation to the institutional bodies of the different countries for the promotion of Common Good, and the protection of Human Rights.
- Establish representatives that can elaborate on the themes discussed at the conference in their own communities at a local level.
