Grazie.
Maria Santissima vi faccia tutte sentire il nostro GRAZIE!
God bless!

Will you take the “Mother Mazzarello Challenge”?
On May 13th, the Salesian Family celebrated the feastday of St. Mary Mazzarello, the co-foundress of the Salesian Sisters, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.  As we read a brief summary of her life,we are reminded of her patient and compassionate charity toward all and her simple wisdom of becoming a saint by doing the ordinary things in an extraordinary way.  Let us take the “Mother Mazzarello Challenge” for a month and seek to do the ordinary things that our day entails in an extraordinary, prayerful manner.  How transformed will our days become by the time we read our June newsletter!
Our May Newsletter is attached and is a tribute to our VIDES+USA Volunteers, 2005 – 2006.  Below you will find a few updates from VIDES+USA Volunteers and updates on current advocacy issues, including the DaVinci Code!
Our June Newsletter will be a tribute to our new VIDES+USA Volunteers for 2006 – 2007.
We will resume our regular newsletter in July, which will feature current and former volunteers and advocacy issues, as well!  Blessings to all of you!

Prayers and Best Wishes for our VIDES+USA Missioners:
  • Congratulations, Amanda Ziemba, who was married to Mason Randall at Emmaus Church in Austin, TX on April 29th! Amanda was a VIDES Missioner at City of Hope in Lusaka, Zambia, the summer of 2004, and is presently the President of our VIDES+USA Advisory Board. May your love for God and for each other continue to grow each day as you serve Him and others!
  • Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary, Tim and Micki Malone on June 17!  They Served in Zway in 2004-2005 and in Guatemala Jan-Mar of 2006.  May the love you have for each other and for Christ abide in your hearts and grow stronger each year!
  • News from Timor, the poorest country in AsiaTwo of our Volunteer Missioner applicants, Matthew Putorti and Frank So had already been accepted in East Timor, but advised not to go.
Tarry Le, a VIDES+USA volunteer who is currently serving in Timor wrote: May the Lord give you his PEACE!   On April 28, 2006 dismissed members of the military (F-FDTL) held a demonstration in front of the government palace.  At the end of the demonstration, there few cars were burned and a policeman died.  That following afternoon masses of people began migrating to Don Bosco Technical School, the place where I work.  They were afraid that the demonstrators may perform acts of violence.  The total number of people seeking refuge in Don Bosco is between 7-10,000 people.  That night some houses were burned in Dili and reports said that 5 people died.
Since then, things have been very peaceful in Dili.  Some have gone home but the majority are still here.  They are waiting for the government to solve the problem with the military members.  Today is the 23rd since the refugees came.  We have been given a lot of support from organizations such as World Vision, Catholic Relief Services, Health Net, Red Cross and a few more.  They donate rice, ramen, water, medicine and many other things.  As expected, many people are getting sick as they are improperly nourished, exposed to the dust and wind.  Sanitation also presents a problem since there are not enough restrooms for all the people.  Things may sound crazy, but it is actually quite peaceful.
As for me, I am waiting for the day when classes begin again.  Now, I spend my time in prayer, talking with the boys and playing with the children. :)  Thanks be to God for the little ones.
So please pray for peace in East Timor and I will try to update you as the events unfold.
