Il Vides Internazionale ha partecipato alla Prima Sessione del Consiglio dei Diritti Umani che si è tenuto a Ginevra dal 19 al 30 giugno.
Partecipare al Consiglio dei Diritti Umani è stato molto importante per il Vides sia per l’importanza dell’evento (questa era la prima sessione di questo organo costituito il 15 marzo 2006) sia per la possibilità di incontro con rappresentanti di Organizzazioni Internazionali.
Il Consiglio dei Diritti Umani ha approvato otto risoluzioni, tre decisioni e due statement.
Il Vides ha firmato, insieme alle altre organizzazioni e a rappresentanti degli Stati, affinché fosse approvata la Dichiarazione sulle Popolazioni Indigene. Tale Dichiarazione, approvata dal Consiglio dei Diritti Umani, dovrà ora essere presentata al Consiglio di Sicurezza per essere adottata.
Il Vides ha avuto modo di parlare con Ms. Rachel N. Mayanja, Assistant Secretary General, Special Advisor on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women; con Ms. Rima Salah, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director; con Ms. Ingeborg Breines, Director/Representative, UNESCO Liaison Office in Geneva; con Mr. Peter Lesa Kasanda, Chairperson-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Peoples of African Descent; con Kitty Arambulo, Secretary of the Working Group on the Right to Development.
Ha avuto occasione di confrontarsi anche con Organizzazioni non Governative, quali Franciscans International, ATD Quart Monde, CETIM (Centre Europe - Tiers Monde).
Ha, inoltre, avuto modo di parlare con Isolda Agazzi, rappresentante del CONGO (Conference of NGO’s in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations), dalla quale si è evinta l’importanza per il Vides di far parte di questa Organizzazione.
Per il Vides Internazionale hanno partecipato Sr Maria Grazia Caputo, Joe Washington, Maria Chiriano, Gesa Bent e Suzanna Kennedy.

VIDES International participated in the First Session of the Human Rights Council held in Geneva from the 19th to the 30th of June.
It was very important to participate in the Human Rights Council: for the importance of the event (this was the first session of this new organ consituted on March 15, 2006), and for the possibility to meet with representatives of other international organizations. 
The Human Rights Council approved eight resolutions, three decisions, and two statements.
VIDES signed a statement in support of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples together with other organizations and some member state representatives.  The Declaration, approved by the Human Rights Council, must be presented to the Security Council to be adopted.
VIDES was able to speak with Ms. Rachel N.
