In piedi contro la povertà
C’è stata una grande mobilitazione nel mondo per la Campagna “In piedi contro la povertà” (Stand Up). Questa Campagna è parte di quella organizzata dal GCAP per fare pressioni sull’azione dei governi per un commercio equo e per l’insieme degli impegni come gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio (MDG).
Qui ci sono alcuni esempi dei migliaia di eventi promossi nel mondo:
Togo: Domenica 15 Ottobre il GCAP e gli organizzatori della Campagna MDG hanno chiesto alla gente di alzarsi contro la povertà e per gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio e circa 2000 persone sono state in piedi per 3 minuti e si sono iscritte al manifesto della Campagna “Stand Up”.
Fiji: Il 17 Ottobre per la maggior parte giovani di differenti razze, religioni ed etnie, hanno distribuito cibo e vestiti alle persone che vivono per strada. Il tema per questi giovani era “Un Giorno Senza Fame” e indossavano la maglietta: Stand Up contro la povertà.
Sri Lanka: Centinaia di persone il 16 Ottobre si sono radunate per lo stand Up contro la povertà.
Venezuela: Amnesty international ha organizzato una Giornata di azione contro la povertà.
UK: Una delle scuole più piccole d’Inghilterra ha preso parte allo Stand Up con 9 bambini e 4 insegnanti.
Anche la Confederazione Internazionale dei Sindacati Indipendenti ha aderito all’iniziativa per un periodo di 24 ore. Il loro portavoce ha riferito che gli eventi per lo Stand Up mostrano che i lavoratori accanto ai cittadini faranno pressione sui leader mondiali.
In milioni hanno fissato un Record mondiale per il più alto numero di persone unite in piedi contro la povertà in un periodo di 24 ore. Questo processo è stato principalmente promosso dai sostenitori del GCAP, coalizione per la Campagna contro la povertà e per la giustizia economica.

Stand up against poverty
There was a great mobilisation in the world for the Campaign “Stand up against poverty”. It is a part of Campaign organised by GCAP to lobby for government action on fair trade and the set of pledges as the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
Here there are just a sample of the thousand of events promoted in the world:
Togo: On Sunday 15th October the GCAP and MDG Campaign in Togo asked people to stand up against poverty and for Millennium Development Goals and about two thousand people stood up for three minutes and listened to the manifesto of Stand up Campaign.
Fiji: On the 17th October a majority of youths from different races, religions and ethnic backgrounds have distributed food and clothes to people who live on the streets. The theme for these youths was “No Hunger Day” and weared T-shirt with: Stand Up Against Povery.
Sri Lanka: Hundreds of Sri Lankans on 16th October gathered to Stand Up Against Povery.
Venezuela: Amnesty International organized a Day of action against poverty.
UK: One of the smallest schools in England took part in the Stand Up with 9 children and 4 teachers.
Also the International Confederation of free Trade Union took part in the Campaign for 24 hour period. Stand Up events illustrate that workers alongside other citizen will keep the pressure on world leaders.
Millions of people have set a world Record for the most number of people standed united against poverty in a 24 hour period. This stand up process was facilitated mainly by Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) constituencies, which is a coalition of anti-poverty and economic justice campaigns.
