Mentre le prime forniture di aiuto dell’UNICEF arrivano, è stato lanciato un appello per aiutare il Libano
NEW YORK, USA- UNICEF chiede $23.8 milioni dei 150 milioni $ dell’appello generale dalle nazioni Unite per l’aiuto di emergenza in Libano. Lanciato simultaneamente a Beirut e nella sede delle Nazioni Unite di New York, questo appello richiede alla comunità mondiale di aiutare i bambini e le famiglie durante questo momento difficile.
Mentre le ostilità tra Israele e gli Hesbollah continuano, più di un terzo dei morti o ferriti fino ad ora, sono stati bambini. “Quelli fortunati che sopravvivono, saranno testimoni della morte e delle ferite di un parente e della distruzione del loro ambiente. Molti vivono nella paura.” ha dichiarato la Direttrice esecutiva dell’UNICEF, Rima Salah, durante l’appello.
Forniture inviate
La prima spedizione degli aiuti dell’UNICEF dovrebbe arrivare in Libano mercoledì, mentre Israele ha instaurato dei “corridoi di sicurezza” permettendo di raggiungere i più bisognosi. Le forniture di emergenza sono state inviate questo fine settimana dal magazzino dell’UNICEF a Copenhaguen, Danimarca. Includono le medicine di base, acqua e kit di sanità per 1,700 famiglie.
La protezione dei bambini
L’ambasciatore libanese delle Nazioni Unite, Nouhad Mahmoud, ha affermato che i bambini stanno sostenendo il peso maggiore della catastrofe e continueranno a soffrire nei prossimi mesi.
Ms. Salah ha terminato la sua dichiarazione alle Nazioni Unite ricordando alla comunità mondiale che la protezione dei bambini e dei civili è un obbligo della legge umanitaria internazionale e della convenzione dei diritti dell’infanzia.

Lebanon aid appeal launched as first UNICEF supplies arrive
NEW YORK, USA- UNICEF is asking for $23.8 million as part of a wider UN appeal of $150 million for emergency aid to Lebanon. Launched simultaneously in Beirut and at United Nations headquarters in New York, the appeal urges the global community to help displaced and refugee children and families in their hour of critical need.
As the hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continue, more than a third of those already killed and injured have been children. “Those who are fortunate to survive may have witnessed the death or injury of a loved one and the destruction of their environment. Many live in constant fear and anxiety.” UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Rima Salah said at the appeal launch here.
Supplies dispatched
The first major shipment of UN aid is expected to reach stricken parts of Lebanon on Wednesday, as Israel has agreed to establish ‘safe corridors’ allowing relief to reach those most in need.
Emergency supplies were dispatched at the weekend from UNICEF’s warehouse in Copenhagen, Denmark. These include basic medicines as well as water and sanitation kits for some 1,700 families.
Protection of children
The Lebanese Ambassador to the UN, Nouhad Mahmoud, said children were bearing the brunt of the catastrophe and would continue to suffer in the months to come.
Ms. Salah ended her statement at the UN by reminding the global community that the protection of children and civilians is an obligation under international humanitarian law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
