Un consigliere delle Nazioni Unite si reca in Sri Lanka per garantire che i bambini siano tutelati il più possibile dal conflitto
L’Ambasciatore Allan Rock, Consigliere Speciale delle Nazioni Unite per i Bambini e il Conflitto Armato, si trova in Sri Lanka in seguito all’invito del Governo. Incontrerà anche il partito separatista delle Tigri per la Liberazione del Tamil Eelam (LTTE, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) e la Fazione Karuna (Karuna Faction) per discutere sui loro obblighi di tutelare i bambini.
La sua visita mira a garantire una migliore tutela per i bambini dalle devastazioni della guerra civile.
Prima di ritornare il 14 novembre, incontrerà anche i partner delle Nazioni Unite, la società civile e altri attori importanti, per poi presentare al Gruppo di Lavoro del Consiglio di Sicurezza sui Bambini e il Conflitto Armato un rapporto sulla sua visita.

UN adviser visits Sri Lanka to ensure children are better protected from conflict
Ambassador Allan Rock, the United Nations Special Adviser for Children and Armed Conflict, is visiting Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Government. He will also meet the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Karuna Faction on their obligations to protect children.
His visit aims at ensuring better protection for children from the ravages of the civil war.
He will also have discussions with UN partners, civil society and other relevant actors before returning on 14 November when a report on the visit will be presented to the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict.
