Il Consiglio dei Diritti Umani discute i Rapporti sulla sanità, il diritto al cibo e sui diritti umani
Il Consiglio dei Diritti Umani questa mattina ha discusso il rapporto del Relatore Speciale sul diritto di tutti al godimento della migliore condizione raggiungibile di salute fisica e mentale; quello del relatore Speciale sul diritto al cibo; e il rapporto del Rappresentante Speciale del Segretario Generale sulla situazione dei difensori dei diritti umani.
Paul Hunt, il Relatore Speciale sul diritto alla salute, ha affermato che le malattie trascurate colpiscono le persone più povere nelle comunità più povere. Ha esortato i ministri dei paesi con basso e medio reddito a preparare dei programmi sanitari nazionali che rispecchino i bisogni reali per arrivare a formare un sistema sanitario efficace e integrato accessibile a tutti.
Jean Ziegler, il Relatore Speciale sul diritto al cibo, ha detto che gli Obiettivi del Millennio sulla riduzione della fame non saranno raggiunti. Il Rapporto sull’Alimentazione Globale afferma che l’attuale agricoltura mondiale potrebbe sfamare circa 12 miliardi di persone e quindi numerose morti per malnutrizione potrebbero essere evitate. Comunque si riscontrano anche dei progressi positivi nel mondo, come in Brasile, dove la battaglia contro la fame è quasi stata vinta. Jean Ziegler ritiene l’Organizzazione Mondiale del Commercio responsabile per la grave malnutrizione globale.
Questa mattina inoltre il Consiglio ha discusso anche il rapporto dell’Alto Commissario sull’incitamento all’odio razziale e religioso e sulla promozione della tolleranza e il comune rapporto del Relatore Speciale sulla libertà di religione o di fede e del Relatore Speciale sulle forme contemporanee di razzismo, di discriminazione razziale, xenofobia e intolleranza.

Human Rights Council Discusses Reports On Health, Right To Food And Human Rights Defenders
The Human Rights Council this morning discussed the reports of its Special Rapporteurs on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health; the right to food; and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the situation of human rights defenders.
Paul Hunt, Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, said neglected diseases had been affecting the poorest people in the poorest communities. He urged health ministers in low-income and middle-income countries to prepare national health programmes that reflected what was actually needed to establish effective, integrated health systems accessible to all.
Jean Ziegler, Special Rapporteur on the right to food, said the Millennium Development Goals on reducing hunger would not be met. The World Food Report said that world agriculture as it was now could easily feed some 12 billion, and therefore the deaths from malnutrition were avoidable. However, there were positive elements and progress in the world, such as in Brazil where the battle against hunger had been won. He held the World Trade Organization responsible for massive malnutrition through its decisions.
Also this morning, the Council concluded its discussion on the reports of the High Commissioner on incitement to racial and religious hatred and the promotion of tolerance; and the joint report by the Special Rapproteur on freedom of religion or belief and the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racisms, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance on the same issue.
