Il Consiglio dei Diritti Umani discute i rapporti su Cuba, i territori occupati della Palestina, la Cambogia e Haiti
John Dugard, il relatore Speciale sulla situazione dei diritti umani nei territori occupati della Palestina dal 1967, questo pomeriggio, nel presentare il suo rapporto, ha affermato che la situazione dei diritti umani nei Territori Occupati è deteriorata dal 2001, ed è intollerabile, terribile e tragica per i civili Palestinesi.
Yash Ghai, il Rappresentante Speciale del Segretario Generale sulla situazione dei diritti umani in Cambogia, ha affermato che poche delle sue raccomandazioni o quelle dei suoi predecessori sono state applicate e che i diritti umani continuano ad essere violati sistematicamente.
Louis Joinet, l’Esperto Indipendente scelto dal Segretario generale per occuparsi della situazione dei diritti umani a Haiti, ha detto che dal momento della stesura del rapporto a oggi, ha avuto luogo un rilevante numero di importanti cambiamenti. Questa è una delle rare occasioni in cui l’Esperto Indipendente ha preso parola alle Nazioni Unite con soddisfazione, e non si sarebbe mai aspettato che la situazione potesse essere così positiva. Ha affermato comunque anche che è ancora necessario un grande progresso.
Christine Chanet, la Rappresentante Personale dell’Alto Commissario per i Diritti Umani sulla situazione dei diritti umani a Cuba ha dichiarato che nel suo rapporto ha descritto gli effetti negativi e disastrosi dell’embargo, il quale non costituisce in nessun modo un cammino verso la democrazia, né verso il rispetto dei diritti civili, politici, economici e sociali.

Human Rights Council Discusses Reports On Cuba, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Cambodia And Haiti
This afternoon John Dugard, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, said that from a human rights’ perspective the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory had deteriorated since 2001, and was intolerable, appalling, and tragic for the ordinary Palestinian.
Yash Ghai, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, said he was concerned that few of his or his predecessor’s recommendations had been implemented, and that human rights continued to be violated on a systemic scale.
Louis Joinet, Independent Expert appointed by the Secretary-General on the situation of human rights in Haiti, said between drafting the report and today, a number of overwhelming changes had taken place. This was one of the rare times that the Independent Expert had taken the floor at the United Nations with satisfaction, and he had never expected the situation to be so positive but a great deal of progress remained to be done.
Christine Chanet, Personal Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Cuba said that she indicated in her report the very negative and disastrous effects of the embargo, and that it was not a path to democracy, and should not continue, in particular with regards to civil, political, economic and social rights.
