L’assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite sarà diretta per la terza volta da una donna
Haya Rashed Al-Khalifa, Consigliere Legale della Famiglia Reale del Bahrain, avvocato pioniera, è stata eletta presidente della 61 sessione dell’Assemblea Generale, diventando la terza donna a capo di questa carica e la prima eletta dal 1969.
Ha detto che è stata testimone di molti casi in cui le donne sono state duramente trattate e che la loro sofferenza l’ha condotta a trovare le soluzioni adeguate per ridurre il loro dolore e confermare i principi della Carta delle Nazioni Unite, con enfasi sul rispetto dei Diritti Umani.
“Il futuro delle prossime generazioni dipende dal modo in cui risolviamo i problemi contemporanei”, ha detto. “Dobbiamo lavorare con lo scopo di preservare l’altruismo e di assicurarsi che il nostro pianeta sia un posto più sicuro e più adeguato per vivere”.

UN General Assembly to be headed by its third-ever woman president
The Legal Counsel to the Royal Family of Bahrain, pioneering lawyer Haya Rashed Al-Khalifa, has been elected President of the 61st General Assembly session, becoming only the third woman who will hold that post and the first one elected since 1969.
She said she had witnessed several instances where women were harshly treated and their suffering had driven her to find suitable solutions to reduce their pain and uphold the principles of the UN Charter, with its emphasis on respect for human rights.
“The future of coming generations depends on the way we address contemporary problems,” she said. “We should work towards preserving humanitarianism and ensuring that our planet is a safer and more suitable place to live in.”
