Il consiglio dei Dritti Umani ha adottato un trattato sulle persone scomparse e sui popoli indigeni
Il nuovo Consiglio dei Diritti Umani ha adottato oggi un trattato storico per la prevenzione e la punizione di coloro che attuano i rapimenti (stimando 40 000 casi in 60 paesi) e ha anche adottato la Dichiarazione dei Diritti dei Popoli Indigeni delle Nazioni Unite, regolamentazione dibattuta da 11 anni. La Dichiarazione sarà sottoposta all’Assemblea Generale durante la sessione di settembre.
Esperti hanno dichiarato che la creazione di standards e di regole legali rispetto all’adozione di una dichiarazione garantisca il rispetto dei Diritti Umani e la libertà fondamentale per i popoli indigeni. Alcuni Stati non sono stati d’accordo con l’idea che i popoli indigeni dovrebbero avere il diritto di auto-determinazione e anche su altre questioni proposte. Adesso, le Nazioni Unite stimano che ci sono 370 milioni d’indigeni che vivono in diverse parti del mondo.

UN Human Rights Council adopts documents on disappearances and indigenous peoples
The newly established United Nations Human Rights Council today adopted a landmark treaty to prevent and punish the crime of enforced disappearances, estimated to amount to 40,000 cases from 60 countries, and also the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, legislation that had been debated for 11 years.
The Declaration will now be forwarded to the General Assembly’s September session.
Some experts have said that the creation of legal standards and rules through the adoption of an international declaration would ensure respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples. However some States have disagreed with the view that indigenous peoples should have the right to “self determination” and also other issues that have been proposed. Currently, the UN estimates that there are some 370 million indigenous peoples living in different parts of the world.
