Le Nazioni Unite aiutano i bambini-fantino dei cammelli degli Emirati Arabi Uniti a rientrare nel proprio Paese
Le Nazioni Unite stanno dando una mano a far scendere i bambini-fantino dal dorso dei cammelli e a reintegrarli nelle loro comunità.
Nel maggio 2005, il Fondo delle Nazioni Unite per l’Infanzia (UNICEF, UN Children’s Fund) e gli Emirati Arabi Uniti hanno concordato per il ritorno di questi bambini nei loro Paesi d’origine. Nel 2005, il Governo degli Emirati Arabi Uniti ha approvato una legge federale che proibisce il reclutamento e l’uso di bambini minori di 18 anni come fantini.
“Considero questa decisione come una opportunità reale per tutti gli ex-fantini, di riavere qualche speranza di ritornare nelle proprie comunità e beneficiare di programmi educativi e di formazione professionale per migliorare il loro futuro,” ha dichiarato il Vice Direttore Esecutivo dell’UNICEF Deputy Rima Salah.

UN helps child camel jockeys from United Arab Emirates reintegrate in their homelands
The United Nations is helping to get under-age child-jockeys off the backs of camels and reintegrate them into their home communities.
In May 2005, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to return such children to their countries of origin. In 2005, the UAE Government passed a federal law prohibiting the recruitment and use of children under the age of 18 as jockeys.
“I see this decision as a real opportunity for all the former jockeys, to get back some hope that will help them to reintegrate into their communities and benefit from educational and vocational training programs that will advance their future,” UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Rima Salah said.
