Superando (le aspettative de) gli obiettivi delle Nazioni Unite, i decessi dei bambini causati dal (a causa del) morbillo diminuiscono del 60 per cento
Agenzie delle Nazioni Unite e i loro partner hanno annunciato che a partire dal 1999 la mortalità infantile causata dal morbillo è diminuita del 60 per cento, grazie a una nuova strategia che mira a prevenire la diffusione della malattia altamente contagiosa.
I risultati sono stati resi noti oggi dal gruppo “Iniziativa Morbillo”, che comprende l’UNICEF, l’OMS, la Fondazione delle Nazioni Unite, la Croce Rossa Americana e i Centri per il Controllo e la Prevenzione delle Malattie degli Stati Uniti, avente come obiettivo limitare le morti causate dal morbillo.
Questo successo delle Nazioni Unite contribuirà a realizzare uno degli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio, il quarto, che mira a ridurre di due terzi la mortalità dei bambini al di sotto dei cinque anni.

Surpassing UN goals, child deaths attributed to measles slashed by 60 per cent
Children’s measles deaths have fallen by 60 per cent since 1999, thanks to a new strategy aimed at preventing the spread of the highly contagious disease, UN agencies and their partners have announced.
The results were announced today by a consortium aiming to curb measles deaths called the Measles Initiative, comprising UNICEF, WHO, the UN Foundation, the American Red Cross and the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
This UN success will contribute to achieving one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the number 4, which aims to reduce mortality for children under five years of age by two-thirds.
