L’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite ha adottato una più efficace definizione della povertà infantile, dichiarando che mentre la povertà nuoce a tutti, i bambini vivono la povertà in maniera differente (diversa).
L’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite ha riconosciuto la particolare natura della povertà per i bambini, dichiarando chiaramente che la povertà infantile è un po’ più della semplice mancanza di denaro, e può essere interpretata come la negazione di una serie di diritti contenuti nella Convenzione dei Diritti del Bambino delle Nazioni Unite.
La definizione adottata dall’Assemblea Generale contribuisce a rendere i bambini visibili nei dibattiti politici. Questa è un’opportunità da non perdere – non solo perché il mondo si è impegnato a realizzare gli Obiettivi di Sviluppo del Millennio a favore dei bambini, ma perché i bambini sono la speranza per una società più ricca e giusta.

The UN General Assembly has adopted a powerful definition of child poverty, acknowledging that while poverty harms everyone, children experience poverty differently.
The UN General Assembly has recognised the special nature of poverty for children, stating clearly that child poverty is about more than just a lack of money, and can only be understood as the denial of a range of rights laid out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The definition adopted by the General Assembly contributes to making children visible in policy debates. This is an opportunity that cannot be missed – not only because the world has committed to reaching the Millennium Development Goals for its children, but because children are the agents of a more prosperous and equitable society.
