Filippine: esperto delle Nazioni Unite attacca industria del latte per aver cercato di trarre profitto a scapito della salute dei neonati
Il Relatore Speciale dell’ONU sul diritto al cibo Jean Ziegler ha denunciato una campagna delle industrie del latte filippine che pubblicizza sostituti del latte materno per manipolare i dati delle Nazioni Unite al fine di proteggere i propri profitti a scapito della salute dei neonati.
Lo scorso luglio il Ministero/Dipartimento della Salute Filippino ha introdotto un Codice del Latte (Milk Code) per favorire l’allattamento materno con un divieto assoluto alle false pubblicità sanitarie e nutrizionali. Ma, le industrie del latte, rappresentate dall’Associazione della Sanità Filippina (PHAP, Healthcare Association of the Philippines), si sono appellate alla Corte Suprema sostenendo che le nuove norme costituivano un limite al libero commercio. Come risultato, la Corte ha concesso un ordine di restrizione temporaneo ancora in vigore.

Philippines: UN expert blasts milk industry for seeking profit at cost of infant health
The UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food Jean Ziegler denounced a campaign by Filipino milk companies to promote breast-milk substitutes for manipulating UN data to protect their huge profits regardless of the infant health.
Last July the Filipino Health Department introduced a Milk Code in favour of breastfeeding with an absolute ban on false health and nutritional claims. But, represented by the Healthcare Association of the Philippines (PHAP), the milk companies appealed to the Supreme Court arguing that the new regulations constituted a restraint on freedom of trade. As a result, the Court granted a temporary restraining order that is still in effect.
