I bambini del Belize devono far fronte a malesseri che minacciano la loro vita dopo l’Uragano Dean, avviso ONU
I casi di potenziale minaccia alla vita come diarrea, crampi di stomaco e febbre sono aumentati in Belize dopo il catastrofico passaggio nel piccolo paese centroamericano dell’Uragano Dean, mettendo in pericolo in particolar modo i bambini e le persone più vulnerabili, stando ai dati UNICEF.
Anche se l’impatto di Dean nel distretto nord del Belize avrebbe potuto essere molto peggiore, si stima che circa 30,000 persone – più del 10 % della popolazione totale – sia nelle aree urbane che in quelle rurali ne siano state direttamente colpite.

Children in Belize face life-threatening diseases after Hurricane Dean, UN warns
Potentially life-threatening cases of diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and fever have increased in Belize following Hurricane Dean's destructive sweep through the small Central American country, posing a particular danger to young children and other vulnerable people, UNICEF has warned.
Although Dean's impact on northern districts of Belize could have been much worse, it is estimated that about 30,000 people - over 10 per cent of the total population - in both urban and rural areas were directly affected.
