Il Segretario Generale Ban riafferma il sostegno dell’ONU al Burundi
Il Segretario Generale Ban Ki-moon si è oggi congratulato con il popolo del Burundi sul completo successo dell’operazione ONU di peacekeeping nel paese, mentre riprometteva l’impegno dell’Organizzazione di aiutare l’impoverita nazione a scrollarsi di dosso le rovine della guerra civile e l’instabilità politica.
L’operazione delle Nazioni Unite in Burundi (ONUB) ha terminato la sua missione domenica, quando è stato sostituito dall’Ufficio Integrato ONU (BINUB) e Mr. Ban ha auspicato un rapporto di stretta collaborazione tra il nuovo ufficio e il Governo “ per superare le numerose sfide rimaste”.
Nell’ultimo mese, un rapporto al Consiglio di Sicurezza avvertiva che abusi dei diritti umani, tensioni politiche e altri “sviluppi pericolosi” in Burundi potrebbero causare uno stallo del processo di pace conquistato a fatica.

Secretary-General Ban reaffirms UN support for Burundi as new office takes over
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today congratulated the people of Burundi on the successful completion of the United Nations peacekeeping operation in the country, as he pledged the world body’s continuing commitment to help the impoverished nation shake off the ravages of civil war and political instability.
The UN Operation in Burundi (ONUB) ended its mission on Sunday, when it was replaced by the UN Integrated Office (BINUB) and Mr. Ban said he looked forward to the new office working closely with the Government “to overcome the many remaining challenges.”
Late last month, a report to the Security Council warned that human rights abuses, political tensions and other “troubling developments” in Burundi could cause the hard-won peace process there to unravel.
