Il Direttore dell’Ufficio su diritti umani dell’Onu afferma il diritto allo scrutinio a tutti i paesi
Nessun paese è immune dai problemi sui diritti umani. “Tutti i paesi possono beneficiare dal cooperare seriamente con i meccanismi di diritto internazionale” ha affermato ieri il capo delle Nazioni Unite competente.
L’alto Commissario per i Diritti Umani Louise Arbour ha parlato al Consiglio dei Diritti Umani, che si sta tenendo a Ginevra, invitando le nazioni o cooperare di più con il suo ufficio e con gli altri meccanismi di diritto internazionale.
“Sono convinta che una maggiore apertura e recettività da parte dei governi apporti benefici addizionali e risorse nell’affrontare le sfide su diritti umani” ha affermato Louise Arbour indirizzandosi ai delegati dei paesi membri che stanno seguendo i rapporti presentati ieri.
Il consiglio dei diritti umani sta considerando i reports su alcuni temi come la diffamazione della religione, del razzismo, dei bambini e dei diritti umani, del diritto allo sviluppo, delle persone scomparse e della pena di morte.
UN human rights chief says all countries deserve scrutiny
No country is immune from human rights problems and therefore they can all benefit from cooperating frankly with international rights mechanisms, the top United Nations official for the subject said today.
High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour told the UN Human Rights Council, which is meeting in Geneva, that all nations should cooperate more with her Office and with other mechanisms.
“I am persuaded that more openness and receptivity on the part of governments bring additional benefits and resources in facing up to human rights challenges,” she said.
Her comments came in an address to Council delegates that followed the presentation of her annual report yesterday.
The Council is also currently considering reports on such topics as the defamation of religion, racism, children in armed conflict, the right to development, missing persons, and the death penalty. |
