Dalla Torcia per la Pace al Trattato di Pace: le Donne Ugandesi Promuovono una Pace Inclusiva e Sostenibile
Il 2 maggio 2007 è stato firmato un Accordo sulle Soluzioni Globali alle Cause della Guerra da parte del Governo ugandese e dall’Esercito di Resistenza del Signore (LRA, Lord’s Resistence Army). Per le donne ugandesi e per la regione rappresenta un importante passo avanti per una pace che include le prospettive di genere.
L’Accordo afferma che la composizione del Governo dovrebbe essere ampiamente rappresentativa del carattere nazionale, in modo che rifletta la diversità di genere e sociale. Impegna il Governo a prendere azioni concrete a favore dei gruppi emarginati a causa del genere, l’età o di una disabilità, e garantire provvedimenti adeguati per i gruppi più vulnerabili.
Questo accordo riflette l’impegno dello staff dell’UNIFEM in Uganda, Kenya e Sudan, così come la diplomazia dell’Ambasciatrice dell’UNIFEM On. Phoebe Asiyo, che portò la Torcia della Pace delle Donne al Parlamento ugandese nel 2006, implorando le parti impegnate nel processo di pace a tenere in considerazione l’impatto del conflitto sulle madri, le sorelle e le figlie dell’Uganda.

From Peace Torch to Peace Treaty: Ugandan Women Promote an Inclusive, Sustainable Peace
The Government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistence Army (LRA) signed an Agreement on Comprehensive Solutions to the Causes of War on 2 May 2007. For women in Uganda and the region, it represents a significant step towards a peace that includes the perspectives of women.
Agreement states that the composition of the Government shall be broadly representative of the national character, reflecting gender and social diversity. It commits the Government to taking affirmative action in favor of groups marginalized on the basis of gender, age or disability, and ensures appropriate provision for more vulnerable groups.
This agreement reflects the efforts of UNIFEM staff in Uganda, Kenya and Sudan, as well as the diplomacy of UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador Hon. Phoebe Asiyo, who handed the Women's Peace Torch to the Ugandan Parliament in 2006, imploring parties to the peace process to consider the impact of conflict on the mothers, sisters and daughters of Uganda.
