Sono necessari maggiori sforzi per raggiungere la parità di genere nel sistema ONU - Migiro
Il Deputato Segretario Generale Asha-Rose Migiro ha oggi fatto appello a maggiori sforzi per ottenere la parità di genere nel sistema delle Nazioni Unite, affermando che le statistiche mostrano un’”inaccettabile” mancanza di progressi in quest’area, malgrado le misure prese finora.
Mentre l’ONU ha proclamato la parità di diritti tra uomini e donne, e l’Assemblea Generale ha chiesto una parità del 50-50 nello staff dell’Organizzazione in numerose risoluzioni attraverso gli anni, la parità di genere è lontana dal diventare realtà.
Ha notato che, negli ultimi otto anni, lo share di donne nello staff del Segretariato nelle categorie professionali e delle alte cariche è aumentata solo di una media dello 0.35% annua. Tra il 2004 e il 2006, la proporzione di donne nelle cariche professionali è addirittura diminuita.

Greater efforts needed to achieve gender balance within UN system – Migiro
Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro today called for greater efforts to achieve gender balance within the United Nations system, stating that statistics show an “unacceptable” lack of progress in this area despite the measures taken so far.
While the UN has proclaimed the equal rights of men and women, and the General Assembly has called for 50-50 gender balance in the world body’s staff in numerous resolutions over the years, gender parity has yet to become a reality.
She noted that, for the past eight years, the share of female Secretariat staff in professional and higher categories increased by an average of only 0.35 per cent per year. Between 2004 and 2006, the proportion of women in most professional grades actually decreased.
