Il trattato che mette al bando le mine antiuomo è stato un incontestabile successo dalla sua entrata in vigore 10 anni fa, ma l’accettazione del patto in Medio Oriente rimane purtroppo basso, ha detto il Segretario Generale Ban Ki-moon oggi.
In un messaggio all’ottavo meeting degli Stati Aderenti della Convenzione sulla Proibizione dell’Uso, Stoccaggio, Produzione e Trasferimento delle Mine Antiuomo e sulla loro Distruzione, tenutasi nel Mar Morto, Giordania, Mr. Ban ha fatto appello all’intero Medio Oriente per la sua adesione al trattato.
Il Segretario Generale ha elencato alcuni dei successi prodotti dalla Convenzione, che ha adesso 155 Stati Aderenti.
Ha esortato i paesi che non hanno ancora sottoscritto la Convenzione di farlo il prima possibile.

Middle East countries must commit to anti-landmine treaty, says Ban Ki-moon
The Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty has been an incontestable success since it entered into force 10 years ago but acceptance of the pact in the Middle East remains disturbingly low, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said today.
In a message to the eighth meeting of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction, held at the Dead Sea, Jordan, Mr. Ban called for the entire Middle East to embrace the treaty.
The Secretary-General detailed some of the successes produced by the Convention, which now has 155 States Parties.
He urged the countries that have not yet acceded to the Convention to do so as soon as possible.
