I diritti alle terre, ai territori ed alle risorse naturali delle popolazioni indigene nel forum ONU che avrà luogo a New York il 14 maggio
Più di mille rappresentanti indigeni provenienti da tutto il mondo si sono dati appuntamento alle Nazioni Unite la prossima settimana per confrontarsi con i rappresentanti di governi, funzionari ONU e società civile per affermare le loro posizioni, preoccupazioni e suggerire soluzioni riguardanti terra, territori e risorse naturali. La Sesta Sessione del Forum Permanente sulle Tematiche Indigene si terrà a New York dal 14 al 25 maggio.
Il tema di quest’anno è particolarmente sentito, visti gli sforzi delle popolazioni indigene ad ottenere il riconoscimento dei loro diritti. Oltre a tali discussioni, la sessione del forum includerà anche una mezza giornata di dibattiti sugli Indigeni Urbani e le Migrazioni.
Il Forum Permanente sulle Tematiche Indigene è stato creato dall’ECOSOC nel luglio del 2000. Lo scopo principale del Forum è quello di fornire i pareri degli esperti, aumentare la consapevolezza e promuovere l’integrazione e il coordinamento delle attività rilevanti in seno al sistema ONU.
Il Forum Permanente è composto da 16 esperti permanenti. Il Consiglio Economico e Sociale nomina i membri, 8 indicati dai governi e 8 nominati direttamente dalle organizzazioni indigene nelle loro regioni.

Indigenous peoples’ rights to lands, territories and natural resources focus of UN forum opening 14 May in New York
More than one thousand indigenous representatives from all regions of the world will converge on the United Nations next week to engage with government representatives, senior UN officials, civil society and academia to state their views, voice their concerns and suggest solutions regarding lands, territories
and natural resources. The Sixth Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues will be held in New York from 14 to 25 May.
This year’s theme goes right to the heart of indigenous peoples’ efforts to gain recognition for their rights. In addition to discussions on the main theme, the Forum session will also include a half-day discussion on Urban Indigenous and Migration.
The Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues was established by the ECOSOC in July 2000. The Forum was called upon to provide expert advice and to raise awareness and promote the integration and coordination of relevant activities within the UN system.
The Permanent Forum is comprised of sixteen independent experts. The Economic and Social Council appoints the members, eight of whom are nominated by governments and eight nominated directly by indigenous organizations in their regions.
