Seri abusi di diritti commessi durante gli scontri del marzo 2007 in RD del Congo - ONU
Un investigazione portata avanti dall’Ufficio dei diritti umani delle Nazioni Unite ha trovato che seri abusi – incluso l’uso di eccessiva forza, detenzione illegale ed esecuzioni sommarie – hanno avuto luogo durante gli scontri tra le forze governative e le guardie dell’ex Vice-Presidente Jean-Pierre Bemba nella capitale congolese Kinshasa lo scorso maggio.
L’ufficio dell’Alto Commissario per i Diritti Umani (OHCHR) ha oggi rilasciato le scoperte preliminari delle prove negli eventi del 22 e 23 marzo 2007, che sono accadute circa sei mesi fa dopo che il Signor Bemba aveva perso contro Joseph Kabila nella corsa alle elezioni presidenziali, le prime in più di quattro decadi nella grande nazione africana.
Circa 300 persone hanno perso la vita durante gli scontri e le conseguenze, secondo una dichiarazione rilasciato dall’ OHCHR di stanza a Ginevra.
Inoltre, veniva dichiarato che le autorità Congolesi dovrebbero fornire una dichiarazione pubblica esauriente sugli eventi, spiegando cosa era successo e cosa era stato fatto dalle autorità per correggere il cattivo comportamento delle forze governative e di altro personale addetto alla sicurezza.

Serious rights abuses committed during March 2007 clashes in DR Congo – UN
An investigation by the United Nations human rights office has found that serious abuses – including the use of excessive force, illegal detentions and summary executions – took place during clashes between Government forces and guards of former Vice-President Jean-Pierre Bemba in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa last March.
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) today released the preliminary findings of its probe into the events of 22 and 23 March 2007, which occurred nearly six months after Mr. Bemba lost to Joseph Kabila in the run-off round of landmark presidential elections, the first such polls in more than four decades in the vast African nation.
Some 300 people lost their lives during the clashes and their aftermath, according to a statement released by the Geneva-based OHCHR.
In addition, it stated that the Congolese authorities should issue a comprehensive public statement about the events, explaining what happened and what has been done by the authorities to correct wrongdoing by Government forces and other security personnel.
